We had no resources to help the situation because things were too challenging at every end. The harder we tried, the more difficult it was for us to find a way. I thought hopefully things will get better but I was broken, hurt and depressed.
Daily I prayed for a way out. I planned for ways to help solve every challenge there was. I reached out to associates who could help but I was disappointed as everyone had little to no concern of what I grieved about. Those who cared little were not ready to commit to help the situation.
I live daily with the scar in my heart not of my personal predicaments but of what my country deals with daily.
O, this really wasn’t about me but about Nigeria.
I have carefully noticed that as a country we do not solve tasks till they have become problems and national challenges. We have over the years resorted to only being ready when our problems have become almost insurmountable.
Just before you begin to heave with disgust and worry of the continuous trend of saddening situations in Nigeria, have you asked yourself, ‘am I different’?
When we react to life instead of living intentionally, we face personal struggles in the same measure Nigeria faces national struggles.
The dangers of not living intentionally
In life there are many things that can take away every reason you have to live, to have joy and be fulfilled. As long as you are not living intentionally, life will happen to you. Things you never bargained for will always find its way to you when you do not live intentionally.
For whatever matters most to you in life, ‘if your inner motivation is determined by external situations, then you are not living. You are merely reacting to life.’
You cannot find joy and fulfilment by only reacting to situations in life. You have to always be ahead of the curve.
There is a need for you to plan, pray, plan again and execute your plans. This is because if you wait for life to happen to you, you will have no choice than to serve its needs thereby neglecting what gives you meaning.
The choice is yours to choose if you will rather submit to life’s pressures or stay ready for times of adversity.
How you can live intentionally
The difference between living and merely reacting to life is seen in your daily routine. In planning your routine, you have to schedule your priorities and prioritize your schedule. If you can successfully have a schedule you live by, your life will be more fulfilling than you may have ever experienced.
Your routine determines what you commit to and how to spend or invest your time. Do not only plan your schedule but develop a daily routine that will help you achieve your goals in life.
I believe you must have heard the saying, ‘he who fails to plan, plans to fail.’ That is a simple truth that many people still give little attention to.
How successful you will be in life is dependent on how well you plan. We are quick to think about unforeseen situations that alter our plans, however we fail to remember that a plan keeps us focused when there is so much craving for our attention.
To live intentionally, you must plan your life. Everything you do needs to have a plan. Everywhere you go has to be in your plan. Your life’s plan determines your daily schedule. Your daily schedule in turn determines your life.
Whatever you do not plan for, you may lack the courage to accomplish when things get tough.
Renowned author and business man and coach Zig Ziglar says ‘Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem.’
There will always be insufficient time for you to accomplish what your heart longs for in your academics, career or business. The difference between those who eventually become successful and find fulfilment and those who struggle but get little results is the level of their focus.
Fulfilment comes to those who live intentionally. Living intentionally demands you focus on what matter s most to you in life.

You can walk through life and live through the moments but never live intentionally. You will not find fulfilment, completeness and success if you neglect the golden rule of focus.
Invest in what matters most to you
Over time I have made the mistake of spreading my resources in everything that catches my fascination. I have invested my time, money, strength and thoughts to things that were only needed for a short while.
When you fail to invest with a long term goal in mind, you will likely invest in the wrong thing. Investing is not only about money but also your time, your energy, your focus and your thoughts.
Investing in the wrong thing will drain you of any sense of fulfilment in the long run. It can be thrilling to spend on many short term ventures but if they have no place in your long term goals, you may be signing up for regrets you will not forget in a hurry.
You can live intentionally by investing in what matters most to you. Invest not just in anything but in things that can give you the highest level of fulfilment.
Why I keep writing about fulfilment is because when you are fulfilled you will find an inner energy to accomplish more. What reward is there to succeed at many things that wouldn’t give you a sense of completeness or fulfilment?
The path to daily fulfilment is one that requires a high level of commitment. This is why many people only react to life than determine the life they intend to live.
It is not an easy task to commit daily to live intentionally. However, if you sacrifice temporal ease for long term fulfilment, you will be on the right path to actualizing your dreams and goals.
